It all started with a 1978 Lincoln Continental. Not the sleek lines or powerful engine, but the surprisingly cool-looking (and ultimately flawed) nylon timing gear set. While rebuilding the engine, I couldn't bring myself to throw it away. It was a testament to a design choice I felt was a mistake – a quirky piece of automotive history. Little did I know, that discarded part would be the seed of Clock9nine, my company creating unique, handcrafted Gear Clocks.
The idea sparked during a garage clean-out. I added a clock mechanism to the timing set, hung it at work, and the compliments poured in. “Do you sell those?” became a frequent question. That's when the real adventure began.
My friend, Tomato (yes, that's his nickname!), introduced me to the world of 3D printing. This opened up a whole new level of customization, allowing me to design and print the clock numerals instead of relying on the standard, stick-on variety. After months of design, countless 3D printer purchases (learning the hard way!), and building my website, Clock9nine was born!
